Krazy for Kate

Kate Middleton is not cute. Kate Middleton is beautiful, but what is it that makes her so iconic? A great personal shopper? Beautiful Pantene Pro-V hair? Oodles of money (oodles is an understatement)? Or simply a good eye for color, fashion and style? Before answering that question let's take a look at a few shots of her to find out.

Kate rocking the nautical look. The silk scarf and black heels dress up her otherwise street casual outfit.

I can't imagine a color that would look bad on Kate. This spring green is fantastic. It not only brings out the highlights in her hair, it also provides a great contrast to them.

Kate rocking the modern modern vintage look with the main difference between Kate and Diana's dress being the feminine frill at the neckline of Kate's dress.

Compilation of Kate's outfits.

Pictured above in Hudson jeans. Hudsons are a great jean for long and lean girls, such as Kate.

Despite how much I wish these flat brim hats were in fashion in America, they're not. A similar version that can be in the US without feeling totally out of place is a sun hat. Some of my favorites are Nordstrom ($98)  or Piperlime ($23.99)-a great Aubrey Hepburnesque hat.

I love the hook and eye on this jacket. The way she has pulled her hair back halfway draws more attention to the simple and beautiful details in her tailored jacket.

Pictured above in the Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen gown. Looking very elegant, as usual, for her evening reception with William‘s dad, Prince Charles, and his step-mom Camilla Bowles. She has her hair very simply styled to not distract from the flow of the dress, great advice to girls who wear intricate dresses and over  the top hair dos to prom.

Classy as usual.

To dress like Kate doesn't require a lot of money or even a personal shopper. In fact according to royal watcher Katie Nicoll-US, "[Kate doesn't have a personal shopper]". So, in returning to my question that I asked at the beginning of the post, the answer personal shopper can be eliminated. And sure Kates hair is beautiful but so is Jennifer Aniston's and clearly that isn't solely why she is admired by so many women. And Kate's wealth does help her more quickly find fashionable clothes but we all know fashion can still be achieved on a budget. So yes it is Kate's eye for fashion that has made her clothing so sought after that almost every fashion magazine has featured her at some point in its history. She always looks so graceful because of the feminine manner in which she dresses, never wearing clothes that are too revealing. So next time you go to wear something with a plunging neckline or a short that is barely decent just think, "Would Duchess Kate wear this?"

Happy Birthday America

Dress: Anthopologie, Long Necklace: J. Crew Factory
Pendant Necklace: Jolley's Pharamacy Botique, Belt: Vintage

It is essential to wear two of the three colors on the American flag on the Fourth of July.  This year I decided to go for a vintage look. I am not usually the type to wear a dress when not required to but this dress from Anthro was too perfect for such an occasion. I paired it with a vintage camel colored belt and a pearl necklace, similar to that of the 20s flapper girls, for a modern vintage outfit.

Just waiting for Stadium of Fire to start. So exciting!

It was the Beach Boys 50th Anniversary. For being so old they sounded great.  Growing up on their music it was a riot for my dad and I to see them preform live. I think my mom may have been slightly embarrassed by not only my Dad and I's dancing, which was definitely less than professional, but also our off tune singing.

I am so grateful to live in a free country where there are so many opportunities. Happy Birthday America!

Emerging of Frill and Feathers

As a little girl the deciding factor in my wardrobe choice for the day was the dress with the greatest circumference.  This was determined by spinning over the vent in my bedroom with pink and white-splotched walls until my head and stomach could no longer handle it.  As a tweener I would finger at the fur and feather coats and go all goggly eyed over the shimmering dresses in Nordstrom as they reflected prisms of color off the ceiling, creating yet another work of art.  Meanwhile my sister would beg my mom to take her home so she could play basketball with the neighborhood boys.

I still relish every shopping trip with my mom, in fact my love for fashion has only grown with time. My family teases me that my similarities with Rebecca Bloomwood in Confessions of a Shopaholic, only begin with our shared name. I hope to eventually land a job with a major fashion magazine (Marie Claire, Vogue or Elle). As I have recently started following fashion blogs such as Cupcakes and Cashmere, Pink Peonie and Atlantic-Pacific I have had an increased desire to start my own blog in order to show average people how to be fashionable through the everyday events of baseball games, family parties and even grocery shopping. Fashion doesn't have to be high maintenance in fact my craving for fashion, counter to what many associate with fashion, roots from the power it gives us to express our internal self externally.
